These ladies know how to pay the bills - billfish, that is
The team on Tail Walker/ Wasabi captured the gold and $4,590 by winning Sunday’s second annual Rudee Inlet Ladies Open.
Teams in the ladies-only offshore tournament - billed as the only such event in Virginia - struggled with stubborn fish throughout the event.
Still, blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, dolphin and tuna were caught by the 18-team field competing for a total payout of $13,515.
No wahoo were brought to the Fisherman’s Wharf scales.
Tail Walker finished with 400 points.
Also with 400, but finishing second on time of catch, was Knot Tuggin’.
Smoke Show took third.
In the meat fish divisions, Fillet and Release took top honors in the mahi class with a 13.5-pounder worth $5,100. And Spiros had the biggest tuna with a 10-pounder that earned the team $3,825.
The tournament raised money for the McLesky Comprehensive Breast Center for breast cancer research and treatment - giving the organization $3,060.
Next up is the 23rd annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament that starts Wednesday out of Southside Marina.
