It's the final day of the VBBT, Katherine Anne maintains the lead after two days of fishing
Team Katherine Anne, captained by Backlash Davis, maintained its lead after two days of fishing in the 18th annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament out of Rudee Inlet.
The team, which leads with nine white marlin, has fished its allotted two of three days and will relax at the dock to see what the 55 boats currently out on the water can come up with.
Those teams fishing today could see increasingly rough seas pushed towards the coast by what is forecast to be Hurricane Henri anytime today. Swells inside the fishing grounds are expect to surpass 15 feet later today.
Team Bullwinkle, captained by Dan Spencer, jumped from sixth to second on Friday with a catch of five white marlin for a total of eight billfish. Bullwinkle is also at the docks today.'
Builder's Choice, captained by Brent Gaskill, fell from second to third with six fish. The team is also at the docks today. Builder's Choice was bumped by Bullwinkle.
Team Seven, captained by Jimmy Hardee, didn't fish the first day and jumped into fourth place with a sail and four whites. The team is fishing today.
There are four boats with five billfish, but out of that group, only Team Seven and Mama C - captained by Rob Mahoney - are fishing today.
In two days of fishing, the 81-team fleet has caught 124 billfish, with 105 white marlin accounting for the bulk of the action. There have been 16 blue marlin and all fish caught so far have been released. Surprisingly, only 10 total gamefish have been caught so far.
The teams are competing for a total purse of $785,250.
